Level sensors and flow meters
The most appropriate sensor solution depends on various factors. Does it concern a liquid or a solid? What is the structure of the material? Does it absorb light, sound and/or radio signals? Is it an explosive environment? What is the required measurement accuracy? Do you need accuracy in micrometers or millimeters, or simply a general idea (full, half-full, empty)? And, of course, what is the budget?
If the medium you want to measure is not static but dynamic, a flow meter is more appropriate. Although solutions can be devised for moving solids such as grain or cement powder, in practice these are almost exclusively used with liquids and gases. There are specific sensors for each of these categories. Devices for measuring gas flows are not suitable for liquid flows, and vice versa.
